A step-streak app for iPhone and Apple Watch

Your new coach is a retired running shoe.

Set a daily step goal and keep the streak alive. Gary lives in your hallway and has something to say about every day: in the app, in widgets and in notifications. He was third in '98. There were four of them.

Free to start. Your health data stays on your phone.

Gary, an old running shoe, waiting by the front door
He's been by the door since six. He'd never say so.

How it works

Three things. He'd like it to be more.

Pick a daily goal.

Choose how many steps make a day count. 8,000 is a fine start, and you can change it any time.

"Pick a number. I'll hold you to it. Gently. Mostly."

Keep the streak alive.

Every day you hit the goal, the streak grows. Rest days and streak freezes keep it safe when life gets in the way.

"Sick days don't count against you. I'm grumpy. I'm not a monster."

Hear what Gary says.

He reacts to your day in the app, in widgets, on your lock screen and on your Apple Watch. He knows the weather and how busy your calendar is.

"I won't read your meeting titles. I'll just judge the gaps."

He's on your home screen too.

Widgets for the home screen and lock screen, and complications for Apple Watch. Your steps, your streak and a line from Gary, all through the day.

"I'm small, but I'm watching. Professionally."

Medium widget: 10,412 steps, done, a 20-day streak and a line from Gary Small widget: 7,640 steps, 2,360 to go, a 19-day streak at stake

Who's who in the hallway

You'll hear about all of them. Repeatedly.
Gary
A right running shoe, size 44. Retired. Lives by your front door. You are his comeback.
The '98 marathon
His finest hour. Third in his age group. There were four of them.
The banana
A man in a banana costume who overtook him at mile 9. He waved. Gary has never recovered.
The Sofa
His nemesis. Smug, comfortable and trying to steal you.
The Carbon Plate
The neighbours' new racing shoe. Has never stood in a puddle. Gary doesn't care. He cares enormously.
The wellies
The hallway elders. They've seen floods. They say almost nothing.
Gary in a nightcap

What he knows, and where it stays.

Gary reads your steps from Apple Health and, if you let him, your sleep, workouts, calendar and rough location. All of it is read on your phone and stays there. No account. No ads. The only things that leave your phone are the weather lookup, with your location rounded to about a kilometre, and anonymous usage counts you can switch off. The details.

"I see everything from the hallway. I tell no one. Not even the wellies."

Free for good. Or join the Hallway Club.

"The free version is all of me. The Club is more of me. There's a difference. I'm told."

Field notes

A new one most days, on Instagram and TikTok. He insists.
Gary in a beanie and scarf
Cold out. Good. Nobody dawdles in the cold.
Gary, remembering 1998
'98. Mile 9. A man dressed as a banana overtook me. He waved.
Gary, disappointed
Every hour you sit, the Sofa gets a little more confident.

Hello. It's Gary.

I've been in this hallway a long time. I've watched people come and go. Mostly go. To the Sofa.

You could be different. You could be my comeback. I've been wrong before. Once. In '98.

Shoes on.

- Gary, from the hallway
