"Something broke. Not me. I've been here the whole time."
Write to letterbox@garyfromthehallway.com and a human will reply, usually within a couple of days. Tell us your iPhone model and what you were doing. Screenshots help. First, the usual questions:
Gary's step count doesn't match Apple Health or another app.
While the app is open, Gary counts live from your phone's motion sensor and checks in with Apple Health every minute, so the number can run a little ahead of Health and then settle. Step apps rarely agree to the last step. The streak always uses the settled count.
The widget isn't up to date.
iOS decides how often widgets may refresh, usually every 15 minutes or so. Opening the app updates them straight away.
How do streak freezes work?
If you miss a day and have a freeze, it's used automatically and the streak survives. You get one free each week, plus extras at 7, 30 and 100 days. You can hold three at most.
I'm ill or resting. What happens to my streak?
Turn on a rest day in the app. The streak pauses and Gary goes quiet. Rest days never count against you.
I lost my streak. Can I get it back?
Sometimes. If a streak of three days or more breaks, walk one and a half times your goal the next day and it comes back. That works once every 30 days.
Gary sends too many notifications.
He sends six a day at most, and stops nudging once you've hit your goal. Set quiet hours in Settings, or long-press a notification and pick "Not today, Gary" for silence until tomorrow. If he's too much in general, Settings has "Tone Gary down".
How do I cancel the Hallway Club?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Gary. If you get a new phone, the Club comes back when you sign in with the same Apple Account.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app. Everything Gary stored goes with it, because it was only ever on your phone. Your steps stay in Apple Health. See Privacy for the details.
